How prices move before arrival

Each stay’s cheapest room, measured from its price the day watching began

A stay counts in a stretch once it has three mornings there. Far-out stretches are only partly seen until our history is older, so their figures are floors. In the 31–60 day stretch, 46% of stays never got below where they started.

How we measure

Every morning we ask Universal’s own booking engine for the price of each stay people watch with us, every room type, at the rate they booked: standard, passholder or Florida resident. We keep one price per stay per day. The “start” is the first price we saw for a stay. Nothing here is an estimate or a forecast; it is only what we saw.

How to get the lower price

Never cancel first. A rate you have not booked yet is not yours. Both ways below keep your room until the new price is yours.

Change the booking you already have

Usually easiest. Nothing gets cancelled, so you cannot lose the room or your deposit.

  1. Open your reservation on Universal. Universal’s Manage Reservation page asks for your confirmation number and last name. The number is in the confirmation email Universal sent when you booked. Go to the booking itself, not a new search.
  2. Make a small change, and save. Adding a child and saving is the usual trick. The reservation reprices to today’s rate when you save.
  3. Change it back. Remove the child again. The new, lower rate stays.
  4. Check the total. It should now match the lower price you saw. If it did not reprice, use the other method.

Your party still has to fit the room’s limit.

Book the new rate, then cancel the old one

The fallback, if your booking will not reprice.

  1. Book the new rate first. Complete the new booking while your original reservation is still in place.
  2. Check the confirmation arrived. Universal emails one. Make sure you actually have it before going any further.
  3. Then cancel the original. Free until your free-cancellation deadline. Do this last, and only once the new booking is confirmed.

Your deposit is one night’s room rate, taken at booking, and it comes back when you cancel inside the window. Miss the window and that one night is the penalty. There is no separate per-person deposit to lose.

Watch the room you booked

$10 once. If your room doesn’t drop $20 in 60 days, you get your $10 back. Rather not pay? Your last 30 days are always free.
